Myopathy is a muscular disease in which the muscle fibers do not function.

HIV is claimed to cause myopathy because a large number of AIDS patients suffer from a variety of muscle diseases.

Virtually all HIV+ Americans take anti-HIV drugs.  Many anti-HIV drugs cause myopathy, including myopathy of the heart.

Myopathy causes muscle weakness, cramps, stiffness, spasms to more serious conditions affecting the heart, skin, and muscle wasting of arms and legs. See Heart Abnormalities. Rapid breakdown of muscle leading to kidney failure has been reported.
