(BIZPAC) – If you’re looking for an explanation of the polar vortex, look no further than the White House – just don’t expect a reasonable answer.

“Discussions about the science of weather extremes are heating up,” according to the White House website, adding that the current cold spell is a result of a warmer world.
“If you’ve been hearing that extreme cold spells, like the one that we’re having in the United States now, disprove global warming, don’t believe it,” President Obama’s Science and Technology Advisor, Dr. John Holdren said in the video. “No single weather episode can either prove or disprove global climate change.”
Holdren explains that it is the temperature difference between the “far north” and the United States are causing the polar vortex.
“A growing body of evidence suggests that the kind of extreme cold being experienced by much of the United States as we speak is a pattern we can expect to see with increasing frequency as global warming continues,” Holdren said.
As the temperatures increase, the science advisor says the vortex becomes “wavier.” How’s that for a scientific term?
“I believe the odds are that we can expect, as a result of global warming, to see more of this pattern of extreme cold,” Holdren said.
