Wakefield on Jenny McCarthy’s Triumph Over Big Pharma Bullies

September 9, 2013

09 Sept (TRUTH BARRIER) – This morning Jenny McCarthy will debut as one of the hosts on ABC’s The View, to the profound chagrin of a raft of pharma-promoters in the industries of media and “public health” who worked diligently but not successfully to have her ousted for her opposition to unsafe, excessive vaccines, as experienced through her own neurologically damaged (autistic) son.                                                                                                                                                                                               By Celia Farber

Some of the history of the attacks, as well as some financial facts, are collected here.  I myself was the target of a take-down, in 2007-2008 primarily, after I published a pharmaceutical expose in Harper’s Magazine. Some of the history of that and subsequent sabotage efforts are documented here.

In subsequent years, though work disappeared, (freeing me up to chronicle things like my 1971 goldfish) I have learned so much about the inner workings of the pharma-media machine, and how vitally important it is to specifically withstand these kinds of attacks. The attacks are both well funded, well orchestrated, vicious, and usually fatal. They have been the primary mode of attack for the pharmaceutical industry’s front groups to eliminate those who would expose what they have done. Over the over the past 20 years or so, this the black-art of pack-hunting a “denier” and using “respectable” media to destroy said person’s career and reputation, (finally soul,) has been honed by use. This is the black-art of public, high stakes, professional bullying, and it is not a thing to take lightly. I have known people who have died, physically, from the effects of this extended psychic warfare, abuse, deprivation of hope, income, and identity. I was gravely concerned when I saw the size, volume, and tone of pitch of the pack that went after Jenny McCarthy some months back. Michael Specter, one of the most virulent voices of Pharmapologia, called McCarthy a “homicidal maniac,” which took my breath away when I read it.

The campaign lasted a few weeks, and even Canadian health agencies weighed in, pleading in those grave tones the use, that ABC consider all the children not even born they “might kill” by having McCarthy as a host.

And then guess what happened?

Nothing.

The show, with McCarthy in the seat, airs in 8 minutes.   The Truth Barrier contacted Dr. Andrew Wakefield to get his thoughts on the meaning of this triumph– the failure to take out McCarthy.

My main question to him was this:

Is this triumph a sign of the times that pharma-bullying is losing its impact?”

Wakefield replied:

The pathological optimist in me believes that the show’s owners and Jenny’s co-hosts quietly acknowledge, as individuals, that Jenny is right. Collectively, they have endorsed her position and her credibility by resisting the pressure for her to stand down.”

“ABC is dependent to an extent on its revenues from Pharma. I have no doubt that they came under considerable pressure to bend to Pharma’s will and have Jenny removed; their refusal speaks volumes. The other consideration is that controversy is good for business. In a country where 1 in 25 children born today will develop autism, Jenny has a big following. It will be interesting to watch the View’s numbers.”

Yes it will.
